Thankful Thursday

Today I am thankful for the gift of memories. Yesterday afternoon we got some bad news...my husband Mark's grandfather passed away yesterday morning. Grampie was a wonderful man. He loved woodwork and was an excellent craftsman. He built the crib and changing table that Mark used as a baby, and Allyson and Thomas were able to use the crib and changing table as babies as well. He had a wonderfully humbling spirit about him. He always looked out for the best interest of his family and friends. And I was honored to have been able to know him.
I am also thankful for the life of my Uncle Fred, or Uncle Turtle as we nicknamed him, whom we lost back in April 2007. He was always the clown of the group, my mom says that's because he was one of the middle kids. If you were feeling down, he was always there to make you smile. My mom told me that when they were growing up, he was the one that could make everyone laugh.
I am also thankful for my Aunt Lil, who we lost in June 2007. She was a beautiful spirit, she had the wonderful caring nature, to look out for everyone. She was my mom's oldest sister, and took on the roll of caring for the ones younger than her. That carried on throughout her life. My Aunt Lil and Uncle Turtle were the ones that I got to know the best. (My mom comes from a family of 12 kids) They always looked after and took care of my mom.
I am so blessed to have had these people in my life and I know that I will see them again in the glory of heaven. My life has been truly blessed to have been touched by such wonderful people. And I thank God for having them in my life. Here is a poem that I wrote when my Uncle Turtle passed away...
God saw that he was getting tired,
And a cure was not to be
So He put His arms around him and whispered, "Come with me."
A golden heart stopped beating
Hard working hands came to rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.

We love you and will miss you, until we met again in heaven.
